FAFSA 2027-28 · Michigan
Michigan FAFSA deadlineMCS/MTG closed for new Class of 2027 path — no solid statewide hard date here
What we know: Federal Student Aid still lists a July 1 priority FAFSA date for Michigan Competitive Scholarship and Michigan Tuition Grant — but MI Student Aid says MCS is closed to high-school graduates from 2023 onward, and MTG is closed to students who did not already initiate a paid award in 2023–24 or earlier. For a new Class of 2027 path, those legacy programs are not the story. File the FAFSA anyway for federal aid and current MI programs (including Achievement Scholarship), and confirm dates with MI Student Aid and your college.

Michigan: what to do, step by step
- 1
Create StudentAid.gov accounts — student and parent
The student and one parent each need their own account to sign the FAFSA. Identity verification can take a few days, so do this first.
- 2
File the FAFSA early — do not wait on a legacy MCS/MTG July 1 story
FSA still mentions July 1 for MCS/MTG priority, but those programs are closed to new Class of 2027 initiates. File promptly for federal aid and current Michigan programs.
- 3
Confirm which MI Student Aid programs you can still use
Read MCS/MTG closure notes and the Achievement Scholarship path on MI Student Aid. Create a MiSSG portal account to track status after you file.

Check college dates, then set a filing reminder
There is no solid statewide Class of 2027 MCS/MTG calendar date to chase here. Set a reminder against your earliest college deadline, and re-check MI Student Aid for live programs.
No fixed statewide calendar date for Michigan — we won't invent one. You can still download an .ics with the federal deadline.
.ics includes federal (and any secondary date) — not a fake state deadline.

When a reminder arrives: finish filing
That email or calendar alert means it is time to act. Finish (or fix) your FAFSA, submit it, and confirm each college on your list got it. Then you're done until aid offers arrive.

What Michigan applicants need to know
- MCS/MTG closed for new applicants on the Class of 2027 path (legacy-only; programs sunset September 30, 2029). We will not treat July 1 as a useful statewide hard deadline for new initiates.
- Michigan Achievement Scholarship and other live MI Student Aid programs still generally need a FAFSA — check michigan.gov/mistudentaid for the program that fits you.
- College deadlines can be earlier than any state program date.
Watch out
MCS/MTG closed for new applicants — do not plan a Class of 2027 aid strategy around those legacy July 1 dates.
